Dear neighbors and supporters,

As you may have heard, we are slowing production in our Alabaster quarry for the near term because our gypsum reserves are depleting faster than we expected. Plans to develop the additional 700 acres are still fully in place, but it’s a long process to permit the land and construct the quarry. This is simply a matter of timing – there just isn’t enough gypsum left in the current quarry to sustain full production until the new quarry is ready.

Our existing quarry will continue to supply USG’s River Rouge operation, but other local customers will be impacted beginning in October. We’re working with those customers to ensure a smooth transition.

I want to assure you that USG remains committed to Iosco County and the Tawas area, and we are looking forward to welcoming you for our second Free Fishing Weekend on August 17.
